More and more people today are broadening their lens outside conventional medicine and looking for alternative methods of healing and well being. I know for myself, holistic health practices and natural remedies have been a real keen interest for me in the last couple years. Being in the medical field myself I can appreciate the uses and benefits of conventional medicine practices in certain circumstances. However, I also know that there is more than one way to fix an issue and that often a combined approach works the best.
I have actually experienced Reiki through a practitioner in a time of stress in the past. I must admit I was a bit skeptical but I was willing to give it a shot. It is definitely something to get used to but it is worth being patient and waiting for the benefits. I found after my sessions I felt really relaxed and calm which is not an easy state to get me into. I literally felt lighter both in mind and body.
In the book Practical Reiki, Alice Langholt the author shares with us what Reiki is, how it works, how it helps, how anyone can learn it. For those unfamiliar with Reiki, here is a definition I like to use:
Reiki is a means of activating the body’s universal energy and directing it to those particular areas that need healing. The most common affects of a Reiki session are deep relaxation and a sense of inner peace, creating an ideal environment for the body to maximize its own healing process. Reiki can be used safely at any time, in any place for everything from problems with conception to the pain of terminal illness. Reiki is a powerful complement to all forms of healing- including traditional medicine.
One of the things I like most about this book is how easy it is to read and understand. The book is written in a very pragmatic and systematical manner which allows Alice to guide us along the path of Reiki and turn each corner of understanding with ease. Every topic is broken down in a way that allows the reader to absorb the information easily. It is almost as if you are in a classroom with her and getting the chance to take in every word she says.
Apart from hands on knowledge about how to practice Reiki, Alice shares insight and wisdom about life too. One of my favourite quotes in the book is “We all have the ability and the power to direct intention the way we want to. Realizing this is a very important shift in thinking for most people who feel that life ‘just happens’ to them.” I can relate to this really well. There have been times in my life where I felt like things were out of my control and that the universe had it out for me. That was until I learned about intention and how I actually could direct what happened to me. It is really empowering to feel this way.
This book really opened my eyes to new possibilities and opportunities. It is helping me to achieve a new level of understanding and to change my life for the better which is something I am always trying to do.
If you want to to become more focused, balanced, more compassionate and loving towards yourself and others, I would recommend you look into Reiki and read this book. I can promise you that your health both mentally and physically will improve and you will see new light when looking into the future.
