African Safaris, Gorilla Treks, and Blogcation

Hello everyone. Guess what? On Saturday we will be on a plane headed to a continent I have never been to before.

Where Will We Be Going?

We are headed to Africa!!

I am beyond excited. Ever since I was a kid I have always wanted to go to Africa. There is something that just seems so remote and exotic about it. In fact, for those of you who don’t know, I am a huge traveler. It is actually one of my life’s missions to see as much of the world that I can in my lifetime. My current goal is to see 50 countries by 50 and this trip will definitely help with that. I think I am at 29 right now.

I am fortunate to be able to share this dream with my husband. Since we have been together we have visited 10 countries together and have shared some amazing experiences. The things we have done and seen have truly changed us. We are very grateful.

What Will We Be Doing?

Africa is going to be another amazing experience. We will be visiting Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya. One of the things I am excited most about are the safaris. I absolutely love animals and have always been particularly fascinated with animals from Africa. They are just so memorizing.  I feel so privledged that I will be able to enter their world and view them with awe and appreciation. I am imagining going to sleep to the sounds of hippos laughing; their chatter lulling us to sleep. Then hearing a gentle sound go sailing past our tent…. then looking out to see a herd of elephants gliding past. It will truly be a once in a lifetime experience.

Wait, there is more. Another activity I can’t wait to do is a gorilla trek. In Africa we will have the chance to hike into the mountains and observe wild gorilla families. I feel honoured to be able to do this- to step foot into the world of the apes and feel as one with them. It will be something that I will never forget.

Apart from the safaris and seeing wildlife, we will also be participating in some adventure sports. We are big kayakers and on this trip we plan to do a kayak down the Nile river. How cool is that?! We will also be doing plenty of snorkelling. I don’t have the guts to scuba; not yet at least!

In addition to this, there will be plenty of eating and drinking of local specialties (animal free for me though) and getting to know some of the local people. One of the things I love the most about traveling is meeting local people, hearing their story, and their outlook on life. I find that as much as I learn about them and their life, I always find myself learning more about me in the process. I always seem to come back from a vacation a slightly different person as a result. It’s is a fascinating transformation of one’s self to witness.

All in all it is going to be an amazing trip. I am planning to come home with lots of stories to tell, numerous photos to share, and a renewed and rested self ready to embrace the next year.

What About the Blog?

Since I am going to be in Africa where I will be camping and will have no access to the internet, I will not only be on a vacation but I will also be on a blogcation. This however does not mean that the blog will be on pause for the month I am away. Here is the plan:

The amazing, talented, kind hearted, close friends of mine Mr. and Mrs. SPF from Sustainable Personal Finance will be holding down the fort while I am away. I cannot thank them enough for this. SPF will be covering the basics of the blog like commenting and advertising but nothing more. They have enough on their plate with Little SPF and all. If you haven’t yet visited their site, I suggest you do. They have some fantastic articles.

New posts will continue to be posted during the month as usual. Since I will be away, you will get to hear more from my awesome staff writers which I am sure you will enjoy. There are some interesting and thought provoking posts in the cue. They will respond to your comments and discuss things with you as usual. SPF will be responding to comments on my posts which will be a really neat thing because as much as we are a lot a like we also very different so the conversations should prove to be interesting to say the least.

Since I will be away I will not be able to visit your sites or comment on your posts. However, I ask you please to keep coming to my site and commenting while I am gone. I promise (my word is gold) that I will make it up to you when I return with a slue of commenting and visits. I really appreciate your support and I will definitely reciprocate like I said.

In conclusion and before I say “See You Later” I want to send out some thank yous. First, thank you to my readers for coming by every day and reading the lastest post on the site. It means a lot to me to connect with you on different topics and to build that relationship. Also, thank you to my staff writers for doing such an amazing job. Your articles are always very interesting and I really enjoy the opportunity to get to know all of you better. Thank you to SPF for helping out with the blog while I am gone and for your long standing support for my blog. You have always been a valued reader and friend.

With that said, I will now say “See You Later”. I hope the best for all of you while I am away and I am looking forward to catching up with all of you upon my return. Cheers!

  5. I have to admit I’m feeling a little jealous right now. Honestly, I bet it’ll just be nice to be away electronics for a while. It seems like I spend all day on the computer and I can’t image how weird, but refreshing that would be. Hope you have a safe trip there and back!

    • It is not as quantitative as it seems. I really do travel for the experience and the opportunity to grow, learn and interact. I just picked a number to keep me focused on this exploration journey and to keep it a priority. If I don’t make the number by age 50 that’s fine. That’s not the point. I just want to make travel and seeing the world and growing an important part of my life.
