My Story

Thanks for visiting Prairie Eco-Thrifter. I truly appreciate your support and readership. Because of you, I keep sharing.

Who am I?

I am a prairie raised woman who is passionate about saving money, being healthy, looking out for our environment, and most of all having fun. Since I have a passion for writing and helping others, I started this blog as a way to share my thoughts and ideas with people like me who also want to live a simple life while still having fun.

My Basic Philosophy

I hate waste; waste of any kind: money, time, energy. I like to maximize and optimize everything in my life.  I hate this new culture of “more is better” or “you can’t have enough” and “out with the old and in with the new.” I prefer to live frugal, healthy, and green. Don’t get me wrong though; I still like to have fun. Like I mentioned, I like to maximize my life. I don’t want to have any regrets when I get older. Life is a privilege and I want to enjoy it as much as possible. Therefore, good money habits, staying healthy, and keeping the planet I live on alive is critical to me (and you) enjoying a long, prosperous, amazing life.

I like to do my part for the  environment. I like to re-use and modify and not just because it is green, but because it’s fun and I get to be creative. I like to try different methods and techniques when it comes to cooking, fitness, shopping, building wealth, travelling, and being frugal. You never know what opportunities lie unless you go looking for them. For me, the money I earn is precious and I like to use it on the things that are most important to me. It wouldn’t make sense to waste it on anything else.

My goal is to live a life that is green, debt free, and tons of fun! (Hence my site tag line.)

Why My Voice Counts?

I have spent the last four years living this philosophy and it has greatly improved my life. Before that my life was very stressful to say the least. I had bills that I couldn’t pay, my relationships were suffering, I would constantly impulse shop and yet wouldn’t ever use the stuff, and I was exhausted not happy. I really had no balance and I wasn’t spending my time, energy, money, or health on the life I really wanted. I was living a life that I thought I should be living- keeping up with others’ expectations of me as a person; keeping up the Jones’s through my shopping habits; trying to be the ideal mate and hiding my true self; striving for a career that didn’t satisfy me. I was a young, self-conscious, fearful adult that was afraid to be true to myself. Eventually I realized I had to make a change. This was not the life I wanted to live.

After turning over this new leaf for change I have been much happier and more fulfilled.

  • I have become a very methodical, organized, as well as confident and courageous person which has allowed me to make better life decisions leading to less stress.
  • I live more green and do a better job at self care and keeping myself healthy.
  • I also now have the most amazing husband and family that supports me which is something that was lacking in my previous life.
  • I have made some great friends that I cherish. I also have a job that is meaningful and rewarding; one where I feel respected and valued.

It was an amazing experience to go through this self transformation and growth. Hopefully by sharing my experience, tips, tricks, and insight regarding living green, saving money, being healthy, staying organized, and being frugal, I can inspire you to live the life you have always wanted to live- a happy, prosperous one.

Life is truly a journey!  It is filled with uphills, downhills, curves, and forks in the road.  It is a journey that everyone is on, whether they choose to acknowledge it or not.  Some will wander aimlessly and others will map out a plan, but everyone is on a personal  journey.  I want to help you live a green, financially stable, healthy, and fun life.

In addition to this blog, I am part of an amazing network called Yakezie. You can read more about me on that site by clicking here.

Now that you’ve learned about the person I am, I hope you will return and continue to learn more about how you can live the life of your dreams.
