Environmental Impacts of Commercial Farming: Will You Change How You Eat? — 11 Comments
I’m not a vegetarian, but I do try to eat less meat all the time, for both cost and environmental reasons. I don’t eat beef at all anymore, purely for environmental reasons. We focus mainly on poultry, and we do eat pork on occasion. When prices aren’t outrageous, I’ll buy the free range-type stuff, but we can’t afford to triple our meat budget–just the way it is.
At least you are making an effort when you can. Those efforts still add up to positive change. Remember you can get protein from other sources too. You don’t have to be vegetarian but you can eat a few veg meals a week to break up the cost.
Wow those are a lot of disturbing stats. I knew that commercial food production was bad for the environment, but not this bad. I guess that’s why we should be supporting smaller, local farms since they should be at least a bit better. Cutting down on meat should be more of a priority for people too.
Yes and yes. We need to change our ways drastically to make a positive impact. You should try a CSA. Community supported agriculture is great. We get organic local produce every week from a farmer. It tastes amazing.

All the pesticides is a good reason to eat organic if you can.

That’s a good enough reason for me.
Oh, I don’t even want to think about it. Can I be an ostrich?
Or any other herbivore for that matter?!

I eat local meat and Costco frozen meat. I control it at home and am much more flexible when out.
