angels and demons Angels and Demons Review

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown was the 7th book I read for my book challenge.

Robert Langdon is a world famous symbologist at Harvard University who is suddenly awoken in the middle of the night by a phone call from the mysterious Director of CERN, a science facility located in Switzerland. Before he knows it he’s on a a flight to Switzerland solving the murder of one of the world’s leading scientest Leonardo Vettra, who’s body leaves traces of an infamous anti-Catholic organization, the Illuminati. Leonardo’s daughter, Vittoria, is introduced to the story as a protege of her father, another brilliant scientist who was working on an anti-matter experiment with her father, that in the wrong hands, could potentially harm thousands of people. Under further investigation, we find out that the anti-matter experiment had been stolen along with the murder of Leondardo Vettra, adding another twist to the story. Soon enough, a series of clues leads Langdon, Vittoria, and the Swiss Guard on a hunt to find this mysterious killer, who made it clear he was looking for more victims.

What lessons did I learn from this book?

1. Things aren’t always what they seem: Always do your research and don’t assume you know the answer. This can apply to finances, investments, or planning the future. Make sure you gather all of the pieces or clues before you jump to a conclusion and take action.

2. There is an opposite to everything. Every thing on this earth has an opposite. Whether it is something physical or something psychological, their is always another side, an opposite. This reminds us that life requires balance and too much in one direction in anything can cause a problem. With finances for example, make sure you save well but also allow yourself to spend reasonably. Otherwise, your budget will fail.

3. Anything is possible. In this book, anti-matter was created. This would be a mere flicker in the imagination to most scientists but to one it became reality. Don’t limit yourself to what you see or what you think you can do. Always strive and push yourself for more. You never know what options you might unlock.

I must say, I have truly become a Dan Brown fan. Not only have I found his books an action packed read with many twists and surprises, I have also found them to cause self reflection. I am looking forward to reading more of his novels.
