The Da Vinci Code was the second book I read for my book challenge. It is about a symbology professor Robert Langdon, who finds himself as one of the key suspects in a murder investigation. With the help of a french cryptographer, Sophie Neveau, he sets out to prove his innocence. The story is filled with clues and riddles that lead to the unlocking of one of the biggest secrets in Western civilization.
I must say when I first started into this book I was skeptical. I thought I would find it dry and more like a history lesson. I haven’t seen the movie so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Plus, like most movies, I knew the book was going to differ. But, like everything else in my life I gave it more of a chance. Well after the 7th or 8th chapter I was hooked. I had to find out what was going to happen next. Most days I couldn’t wait to read the next chapter.
I found the book very entertaining and thought provoking. I couldn’t help but wonder if the evidence it shared was true? Are many of us just believing what we are told to believe? Do we allow ourselves to ask why or how? I often found these questions running through my mind while reading this book. It definitely left me more aware of how I receive and perceive information.
All and all, I loved this book. It proved me wrong as each chapter came and passed. I definitely will say that I am now a Dan Brown fan and I can’t wait to read the rest of his works. If you haven’t read this and haven’t seen the movie, I recommend signing it out at your library and giving it a glance. I am sure will enjoy it too.
