Photography has taken the world by storm. It is no longer just saved for special family occasions or for professionals. Photography has become a creative outlet for some and for many families a method of encapsulating their memories. Technology has improved vastly in terms of point and shoot cameras and now anyone of any age can capture precious moments.

The development of the web and computers has created numerous ways to share photos online and these are useful, especially if you have friends and family in various parts of the globe. There are however, some of us who still appreciate photo albums; those of us who share them with company and display them in our living rooms. If this is you, keep reading.

Years ago I had tried to put together my first scrapbook I went to a local print shop and printed the photos I wanted for the book. If I can recall, I spent approximately $20 on prints. Then I visited a local scrapbook store to pick and choose my ‘supplies’. From background pagers to stickers to edge cutters, I was in the threshold of a scrapbooker’s palace. After taking about an hour to get through the entire store, I had filled my basket with the necessary supplies. My bill was over $100 and I really didn’t splurge; I only got the basics.

Unfortunately due to the time commitment to make it and life circumstances, I never did get around to completing it. I only got about half way through.

Since then I have discovered photo books. Photo books are great. I can upload what ever photos I want; I can then arrange them in the layout I choose and I can even pick fonts, background colours and cover material. I find I can be just as creative online as I could at home on my table with the scrapbook. One photo book takes maybe an hour in total to put together, especially if you already have your photos pre-chosen. My store of choice has been Costco but there are numerous to choose from depending on your location. I have found them so easy to compile and they come out looking so great that we actually gave them out as Christmas gifts one year to family. Each book cost roughly $20. This was a $100+ savings compared to my one scrapbook.

We now make one each year to display our memories from that year. The collection is in our living room.

Give photo books a try… I think you’ll be surprised.
