The obesity epidemic has taken the globe by storm. Diabetes, heart disease and hypertension are among the major killers of people today…all preventable with a healthy diet.

We all need to make some drastic changes to ensure the survival of our future generations.

Jamie Oliver has taken this task to heart and started a food revolution with the aims of re-designing the eating habits of the American public. This initiative featured in a TED production touched my soul. Please check it out at Jamie Oliver TED.  What did you think? Please post your comments.

What can you and I do?

  • Set an example for our children by eating healthy foods.
  • Cook at home at least 5 times a week.
  • Swap recipes with family and friends to learn new healthy cooking techniques.
  • Teach your children how to cook. Keep them involved.
  • Take a cooking class to learn different ways to cook food.
  • Limit the times you eat out to a couple times a month.
  • Build financial incentive- use the money normally spent on junk food towards a vacation or a new toy.
  • Volunteer in your community to teach cooking classes or share recipes
  • Start a healthy lunch program at work

These are just a few things we can do to help Jamie reach his goal. Please pass this on and comment on any other ideas you can think of…it means our life!!
